The Wednesday night showing of “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder” was delayed 10 minutes because lead actor Jefferson Mays got stuck backstage in his dressing room.

We’re told the door jammed, leaving Tony-winner Mays trapped inside minutes before the curtain rose.

According to a backstage source, once the crew realized their star was stuck, “The carpenter tried to pick the lock. He even tried jimmying it with his AARP card. He finally just had to knock the door down by throwing his body into it.”

The actor mused, “I was quite calm until I heard a voice shout, ‘Step away from the door,’ followed by a series of deafening thuds. I had visions of Jack Nicholson busting through with an ax.”
