A Hipster spectacles staredown has erupted after Bluefly’s trendy new eyewear site, Eyefly, was accused of lifting its look from a rival e-tailer. Warby Parker says it’s exploring legal action after Eyefly launched last week with the exact same image of a bespectacled model “stolen” from Warby’s site. Eyefly claims it “used the image as a place holder until we created our own content,” and the photo was removed. Both sites sell fashionably framed prescription glasses for under $100 with painfully precious names like “Nedwin” or “Carroll Gardens.” “It feels like being punched in the stomach,” said Warby Parker partner Neil Blumenthal. “We will vigorously defend our team’s work.” Warby calls itself, “A collaboration between four close friends . . . [offering] an alternative to the overpriced and bland eyewear available today.” Eyefly says it was “hatched when three business pros” decided that “great-looking glasses should be accessi ble . . . [and] don’t have to be expensive.” Eyefly had no comment.
