Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the US, came to the aid of a wild turkey that was hit by a car as he drove into Sag Harbor. Frances Hayward, who was with Pacelle after they left a party at Georgica for his book, “The Bond” on Saturday, told us: “Wayne swerved to avoid the turkey, but it was hit by an oncoming car. He ran to a house to find a box and blanket, and wrapped up the turkey. We drove to the nearest 24-hour vet, which was in Riverhead and took a while due to traffic. Sadly, the turkey died the next day, but at least it wasn’t in any pain.” She added,“Wayne does what his book calls for, that we protect animals.”
