Leighton Meester: ‘I’m not sure I ever want to get married’

While Blair Waldorf’s wedding may have been the centerpiece of this season on “Gossip Girl,” actress Leighton Meester says she doesn’t know if she wants to get married in real life.

“I never had a boyfriend until I was 18. It’s nice, I guess – when you like them. But it isn’t the most important thing,” Meester, 25, says in the April issue of Marie Claire. “I’m not sure I ever want to get married. The only time a relationship is good is when you really love them. I don’t want to hang out with some guy I just like.”

Meester also opens up to the magazine about her childhood. While the brunette stunner plays the Upper East Side daughter of a fashion designer on the show, Meester’s real mother gave birth to her while serving time in prison for smuggling marijuana.

“My family has a crazy history. Probably the craziest I’ve heard of,” Meester says, before explaining that she for the most part felt normal growing up in Marco Island, Florida. “I look back now and I see it in a nice light. It wasn’t uncomplicated. But I played outside. I went to the beach. There were happy, fun times.”

However, because Meester was so focused on acting and making ends meet for her family, she says that she often didn’t relate to other kids her age, which might explain her indifference toward being in a relationship now.

“I couldn’t relate to kid stuff. ‘Jimmy doesn’t like me!’ Who cares? I was worried we didn’t have gas money or food,” explains Meester. “Those were my concerns.”
