Stars, directors and writers didn’t just schmooze with Globes and Oscar voters over the weekend.

At Mulberry and Jaguar’s upscale BAFTA Tea Party at the Four Seasons on Saturday, A-listers included Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julian Fellowes, Michael Fassbender and Sally Hawkins.

BAFTA (the British film and TV academy) just announced its nominations. Food at the high-end affair was appropriately British. One American, bewildered by some of the names of the foreign sweets posted on little signs, asked a Brit next to him, “What’s an Eccles Cake?”

“It’s very British,” said the visitor, “but the real English stay away from them,” he said.
