Paula Petrella — daughter of the late Peter Savage, who co-wrote Jake LaMotta’s 1970 autobiography, “Raging Bull: My Story” — is shopping a book of her own, called “Roll With the Punches.” According to a proposal seen by Page Six, the book follows Savage’s life and also gives a behind-the-scenes look at the development of the 1980 Martin Scorsese film the book inspired. Recalling Robert De Niro’s boxing training with LaMotta, Petrella writes, “Jake refused to wear headgear,” and recalls De Niro accidentally broke the boxer’s nose during sparring. She further recalls that Savage once stepped in to explain to LaMotta that not wearing any protection in the ring bothered De Niro, to which LaMotta responded, “Well, it don’t bother me!” Petrella says the book pays tribute to her dad because, “No one ever mentioned my father on any talk shows or radio interviews [at the time of the film “Raging Bull”] . . . Jake himself took all the credit for the project and never reached out to us as a family friend after my father died.” The book is being shopped by the Jennifer De Chiara agency.
