‘Harlem Shake’ hits No. 1 on iTunes – see the Web’s best versions

Thanks to its certified meme-status, Baauer’s synth-heavy track “Harlem Shake” reached the top spot on iTunes’s “Top Songs” list yesterday, nine months after its release.

A 30-second snippet of the New York producer’s dance track had become a full-blown viral video trend. As YouTube reported recently, more than 4,000 “Harlem Shake” videos were being uploaded every day and the number is likely to rise.

As of today, “Harlem Shake” has been temporarily booted off No. 1 due to One Direction’s new single “One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)” but it’s likely to reclaim the spot after 1D fans get their boy band fix.

As the rest of the country jumps onto the latest dance craze, the shaking song does not seem to be going anywhere soon. Check out some of the Web’s best remakes, from a delightfully nerdy Star Wars version to a Norwegian army edition and more.
