Disgraced and ‘broke’ DSK soaks up the sun in Mauritius

Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is soaking up the sun at a five-star resort in Mauritius with new girlfriend Myriam Aouffir.

The 63-year-old Strauss-Kahn is relaxing at the lavish Le Prince Maurice resort with Aouffir, a high-flying French television publicist, according to the Daily Mail.

They are enjoying the lavish vacation, even though Strauss-Kahn was forced to borrow millions from his ex-wife Anne Sinclair to pay his legal fees.

Rooms at the resort, which bills itself as a “totally indulgent tropical hideaway” for couples looking for a “romantic and secluded getaway.” Rooms start at $926-a-night and go up to over $2,000-a-night.

A fellow guest told the Mail: “Dominique and his girlfriend came to the restaurant just once and everyone stared at them, and they’ve since remained in their room and have been keeping a low profile.”

Strauss-Kahn and Aouffir – who is 21 years his junior – got together last year and have been seen jetting around the world despite his claims at money woes. They were last month spotted in Venice travelling the city’s canal on a plush speedboat. They have also been seen in Corsica and Jerusalem.

In August 2011 a judge at Manhattan’s State Supreme Court dismissed the criminal sexual assault charges against Strauss-Kahn. But he has agreed to a $6 million payout to hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo to settle her civil action for sexual assault.

Once tipped as a future president of France, DSK’s career went into a stunning downfall after he was arrested following an encounter at Manhattan’s Sofitel hotel in May 2011.

It ended his IMF career and political aspirations and his wife, who had stood by him through all the scandal, confirmed their separation in August of that year. It has been reported that DSK will have to borrow half of his settlement payout to Diallo from the bank and the rest from his long-suffering ex wife.
