Schwarzenegger on delayed Sandy bill: ‘Washington is disastrous’

Arnold Schwarzenegger has slammed DC’s response to the Hurricane Sandy tragedy.

“Washington is disastrous,” the former California Governor said on Entertainment Tonight.

While Schwarzenegger credited New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for helping to pass the relief bill in the Senate, he slammed the nation’s capital.

“They can’t get anything done, and it’s embarrassing — that we had to wait for an extra day to get that bill passed. I mean that was a no-brainer,” he continued. “The states pay federal tax, so the least they can do when there’s a disaster like that is to immediately cough up the money and to help those states in a state of emergency.”

Christie hurled criticism at House Republicans for not addressing the bill last Tuesday, which was the original plan.

“New Jersey deserves better than the duplicity we saw on display,” Christie told CNN.

According to The Post, President Obama signed the first Hurricane Sandy disaster-relief bill into law yesterday, approving $9.7 billion for the National Flood Insurance Program.

The program was about to run out of money, leaving about 115,000 storm victims with unpaid flood claims.

The House is expected to vote on a $51 billion aid bill on Jan. 15.
