Brad Pitt joins Chinese Twitter

Instead of deciphering his confusing Chanel No. 5 commercial, Brad Pitt’s fans can now take a stab at his cryptic social media posts.

Pitt is now on China’s version of Twitter, Sina Weibo, according to an AP report.

The actor’s verified account sent the message at noon Beijing time: “It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming.”

Pitt has since gathered more than 160,000 followers. His message was forwarded more than 31,000 times and netted more than 14,000 comments, many expressing surprise.

Many wondered if he will be visiting the communist nation, where he is reportedly banned.

“Brad Pitt now has a Weibo account. First post is “It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming…” can he? Thought he was banned after 7 Years in Tibet…” a fan wrote via Twitter.

According to IMDB, Pitt was banned from ever entering the country because of his role in the 1997 “Seven Years in Tibet.” The government was upset about the film’s portrayal of harsh Chinese rule over the Tibetan people.

Despite the ban, Pitt has quite the fan base among the Chinese people. His film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” with Angelina Jolie was popular in China, earning $7.5 million there.
