Céline Dion thanks fans for their support after husband’s death

Céline Dion is thankful for the public’s support after her husband René Angélil lost his longtime battle with cancer on Jan. 14.

“My family and I are deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support from so many people who have touched our lives during these past few days,” the singer, 47, wrote on her website on Friday. “We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most difficult time … more than you’ll ever know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

She continued, “I would also like to sincerely thank the Quebec Government for honoring René with National Funerals as well as the many individuals and organizations who came together to hold such a beautiful tribute in his name,” adding, “We will never forget all of the kindness that you have bestowed upon us.”

Fans came out to show their support in Montreal at a public wake on Jan. 21 before Angélil was laid to rest on Jan. 22. The state funeral was held at Notre-Dame Basilica, where the couple wed in 1994.

Two days after her husband died, Dion’s brother Daniel, 59, passed away, also losing his battle to cancer.

Dion will return to the stage on Feb. 23.
