Liz Cho busted for talking on cell, driving without insurance

WABC-TV news anchor Liz Cho was busted for using her cellphone while driving her brand-new BMW on the Upper West Side on Monday — and cops later learned that she had no car insurance, law enforcement sources told The Post.

Cho, 45, was spotted on the phone before she was pulled over at 10:52 a.m. at the southeast corner of Riverside Drive and West 95th Street while in the area visiting a friend, sources said.

Cops did a routine check with the state Department of Motor Vehicles and discovered that the insurance on her blue 2016 BMW had lapsed and that her license had been suspended as a result.

The Connecticut resident, who married NBC Sports anchor Josh Elliot, 44, in July, was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and being an unlicensed operator. She was released without bail.

“She was cool. She was calm. She wasn’t rattled by the situation,” a source said of Cho, adding that she was not cuffed.

A spokesman for Cho said cops pulled her over while she was “reading something on her cellphone” as she was stopped at a red light.

The rep added that the insurance flap was merely a clerical error.

“While fully cooperating, she was informed that her license was flagged as being suspended due to an apparent previous lapse in her insurance that occurred several years [ago], even though her insurance is currently valid,” the spokesman said.

“Liz takes this matter very seriously and is looking into the source of the issue, and appreciates the professionalism of the officers who were simply doing their jobs.”

Cho co-anchors the affiliate’s 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts and has worked at the station since 2003.
