Obama’s Waldorf Astoria snub breaks presidential tradition

President Obama will not stay at the Waldorf Astoria on Friday amid fears the place could be bugged after it was sold to a Chinese company.

The Department of State changed a tradition of putting up US officials at the Waldorf — where every president since Herbert Hoover has hung his hat — after Hilton Worldwide announced it was selling the hotel to Anbang Insurance Group.

Reports say there are fears the Chinese might set up a bugging system.

Obama, here for a fundraiser and Broadway show, will stay at Millennium’s ONE UN New York, near the UN, which sources said would likely be his regular hotel when he’s in town.

The White House did not respond to requests for comment.
