Jeremy Renner: I’ve made it because people think I’m gay

Jeremy Renner doesn’t care what you think about his sexuality.

“When you Google yourself and the first thing that comes up is ‘Jeremy Renner gay,’ it’s like, ‘Oh, now you’ve arrived. You’re now a giant movie star,’” Renner, 44, quipped to Playboy in a recent interview.

As a general rule, Renner doesn’t discuss his personal life.

“So I just had a big laugh about it,” said Renner, who once flipped houses with his brother as a side job. “I don’t care, ultimately, if that’s what people want to think, read and care about. F—king say whatever the hell you want about me.”

Renner points to the current times, which have embraced gay culture. “Look at where we’re at socially,” he continued. “Leaps and bounds ahead of where we started. That’s an amazing thing. To suggest that it’s negative, that being gay is a terrible thing, a perversion or whatever — I just don’t get it. Don’t you wish we were in a world where we’re not shaming, judging and boxing people in?”

Renner and his soon-to-be ex-wife, Sonni Pacheco, called it quits in December after 10 months of marriage. They will share joint custody of their 2-year-old daughter, Ava.
