The prosecutor demonized in “Making a Murderer” is defending himself in a book.
Ken Kratz — the former Wisconsin district attorney who won the murder conviction against Steven Avery — was approached by publishers after going on TV shows hosted by Nancy Grace and Jeanine Pirro.
Now he’s working on a book proposal that will be shopped to publishers next week.
The 10-part documentary on Netflix inspired over 460,000 people to sign a petition demanding the pardon of Avery and his mentally challenged nephew, Brendan Dassey.
But Kratz told me the producers slanted evidence and left out crucial facts to make the killers seem innocent and Kratz seem like a villain who framed an innocent man.
“If I was spoon-fed only what the Netflix documentary wanted me to see, I’d come to exactly the same conclusion. I’d be outraged.”
Besides setting the record straight, Kratz said he wants to end the speculation.
“This was a case that included the murder and dismemberment of a 25-year-old woman. It’s not fair to her memory, or to her family. They deserve some closure.”
Kratz said he’s been thinking of writing a book for 10 years. “I’m a trial lawyer, not a writer,” he said.
“But there are parts of this case that no one else knows.”
