Sorry, Kim: This year’s Met Gala will be a selfie-free zone

No selfies will be allowed at the starry Met Gala this year. Anna Wintour, Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are cracking down on celebs taking photos and videos with their phones at Monday’s glamorous Costume Institute Gala.

All guests have received notices with their arrival information stating, “The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala.” That means selfie queens and Instagram stars like Kim Kardashian West and Kendall Jenner will have to somehow abstain from posting pictures of themselves and their fabulous friends inside the museum at the fashion world’s most photographed party.

Vogue is filming a documentary with Relativity Studios on this year’s Met Gala, called “China: Through the Looking Glass,” about the making of the Chinese fashion-themed exhibit at the Costume Institute and the A-list gala.

While many wondered if the ban was to make the doc more exclusive, or to give Vogue editorial control of photos, a source told us, “It has solely to do with guests’ security and enjoyment of the event.”

Last year, Cynthia Rowley snuck a GoPro camera in her purse, unbeknownst to Vogue staffers, and shot the festivities, catching Jenna Lyons, Dita Von Teese, Lena Dunham and Hayden Panettiere on camera. A Vogue rep declined to comment.
