Lara Logan hospitalized

CBS News correspondent Lara Logan was rushed to a DC area hospital, suffering from internal bleeding.

Logan, a correspondent for “60 Minutes,” was admitted to the hospital Wednesday with digestive disease diverticulitis and internal bleeding, a network source told Page Six.

The source said her condition could have been brought on by stress, and Logan, 43, is expected to remain in the hospital for at least a few days to recover.

A CBS spokesperson said, “We wish Lara a very speedy recovery,” but declined to comment further on her condition Thursday night.

This has been a difficult time for “60 Minutes” and its staff following the death of veteran journalist Bob Simon, who perished in an accident when he was riding in a livery cab on the West Side Highway on Feb. 11.

Durban, South Africa-born Logan’s reporting from war zones has earned her a reputation as one of the most courageous foreign correspondents. She covered the war in Iraq and from the front lines in Afghanistan, and was named a full-time “60 Minutes” correspondent in 2012.

In 2011, she was sexually assaulted and beaten by a mob in Tahrir Square in Cairo while reporting for “60 Minutes” on the Arab Spring, and talked about the incident to draw attention to the plight of women in war zones.

She was forced to take a seven-month leave of absence in 2013 after she admitted a Benghazi report was based on a later-discredited interview with contractor Dylan Davies.

And last year she was quarantined in a South African hotel after reporting from a Liberian hospital that was treating Ebola patients.

Logan lives in Washington, DC, with her husband, Joseph Burkett, a US government defense contractor, and their children.

In January, she reported from Afghanistan on the future of the country as the US-led coalition draws down its forces. She also made a low-key appearance in Los Angeles at a few events last week during the run-up to the Oscars.
