Details magazine has always been a bit confused trying to please both its gay and straight male readers, but it’s truly discombobulated with its November cover subject, Adam Lambert — the “American Idol” runner-up who wore eye makeup and nail polish and came out of the closet after the season ended. Details had photographer Alexei Hay shoot Lambert in a steamy embrace, kissing lingerie model Kim Cloutier, who shed her bikini. The story by Nancy Jo Sales claims female fans throw their underwear onto the stage when Lambert performs along with feather boas and riding crops. “Women obviously know he’s gay, but they are still crazy about him. He’s no Liberace,” Details editor-in-chief Dan Peres tells us. “To put him with a beautiful female model felt absolutely right.” Lambert told the magazine, “I like kissing women sometimes. Women are pretty. It doesn’t mean I’m necessarily sleeping with them.”
