Act II exodus for Sellars’ Othello

It’s not just critics who hate Peter Sellars‘ production of “Othello” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman at NYU’s Skirball Center. Audiences hate it too, with most leaving at intermission. Will Pulos reports onNYULocal.com that the scene at the theater one recent night “was, in fact, pretty brutal. I basically haven’t seen a theatrical exodus that large since sitting through a community theater production of ‘Clue: The Musical’ in northern Michigan.” One who stayed said Sellars himself came onstage “to urge those who’d managed to make it past intermission to occupy the now empty seats in the front of the theater — ‘Move up. Please move up. The closer you are, the better.’ “
