Swiss locals’ laud Roman Polanski

Roman Polanski‘s neighbors in Gstaad, Switzerland, are outraged at his arrest Sunday over his 1977 rape of a 13-year-old girl he’d drugged. “Everybody loves him,” said one well-heeled Euro. “He built a beautiful chalet with old wood. He skis like crazy. He’s very family-oriented. I’ve never seen a man who changed his life so much.” Residents of the Swiss Alpine resort can’t fathom why Polanski was apprehended for extradition to California while Marc Rich was allowed to live openly in Zug for many years as a fugitive from US tax-evasion charges until his 11th-hour pardon by then-President Bill Clinton. “I guess Polanski wasn’t rich enough to pay off the right people,” shrugged our local. Neighbors are particularly fond of Polanski’s son, Elvis, 12, “who plays piano like a dream. He plays classical, then switches to boogie-woogie.”
