BRETT Ratner — a big supporter of Roman Polanski — didn’t mean to diss California’s legal system when he told BlogTalkRadio just hours before Polanski was arrested in Switzerland on a 31-year-old rape case: “The family has forgiven [Polanski]. The victim has forgiven him. The rest of the world has forgiven him. The LA judicial system is corrupt. It’s horrible.” In a statement released yesterday, the “Rush Hour” director said, “I wish to clarify my previous comments . . . When Roman pled guilty in 1978, the prosecution, the judge, and the defendant all agreed to the sentence. But after he entered his plea, Roman learned that the judge did not intend to honor the previously negotiated deal that triggered his plea. This is what I was referring to when I recently said the judicial system seemed ‘corrupt’ in this case. It was not my intention to discredit the present California legal system or the district attorney’s office.”
