NBC Nightly News’ Peter Alexander and NBA Commissioner David Stern were among those eating in total darkness at the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ Dining in the Dark benefit at the Plaza the other night. Hundreds of guests used only their senses of smell, sound and touch to navigate meals. Rando Allikmets, research director of the Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University, and Israel Discount Bank CEO Reuven Spiegel were honored at the sold-out event for their support in the fight against blindness-causing diseases. The evening raised more than $600,000 for the foundation.
