Elaine’s piano man served divorce papers ‘midsong’

Michael Garin, the piano man at Elaine’s, now composing songs for the upcoming Broadway musical “Sleepless in Seattle,” got a surprise during a recent gig — when he was served with divorce papers from his wife. “We’d been separated for four years, but I’m still not sure why I got served midsong,” he told us. “The first thing I played after getting the papers was ‘Love and Marriage.’ ” Garin has a tax-day gig April 15 at the Metropolitan Room called “Many Happy Returns.”
