Stuart Braunstein, owner of Bowery art space Collective Hardware, thinks the owners of new Meatpacking District eatery The Collective copied his name — and he’s none too happy. “People call us ‘Collective’ for short, and now all my friends are asking me why we’ve opened up a restaurant near all the clubs,” he tells us. “We’ve tried to build a counterculture home for artists at Collective Hardware, and they’re basically a restaurant that sells disco fries to drunk people. It’s like a T.G.I. Warhol’s.” A rep for The Collective didn’t respond to requests for comment.
