Why Bon Jovi dumped Diane Lane

Diane Lane was the hard-partying girlfriend of Jon Bon Jovi in 1985 — long before she married Christopher Lambert, had a daughter and later married Josh Brolin.

But the rock idol dumped Lane — who stars in the upcoming movie “Secretariat” — because she made him jealous by getting too close to Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, according to a new book, “Sex, Drugs and Bon Jovi,” by the band’s former tour manager, Rich Bozzett.

“The very thing that made Jon feel so passionate toward Diane Lane in the first place ended up being the reason for their sudden, unceremonious breakup,” Bozzett writes.

“Diane was young and wild and loved to party. But she loved to party so much that Jon caught her partying with Richie Sambora. That wasn’t a good day for Jon’s relationship with Diane, to say nothing of Jon-Richie relations.”

Bon Jovi reconciled with high school sweetheart Dorothea Hurley, and married her in 1989. The couple has four children.

It’s possible Dorothea never knew about Bon Jovi’s trip to Japan 25 years ago — when, Bozzett’s self-published book claims, Jon contracted “crabs,” pubic lice.

“It may have been from a visit to a public bath house, or too close social contact with all the fashion models,” Bozzett writes. “Anyway, in Japan, nobody has any body hair, so they never even heard of ‘crabs.’ much less have the meds to get rid of them.

“Meanwhile, Jon has a coat of fur like a goddamned pony and the crabs were everywhere. I brought him to a bunch of local doctors and eventually to a hospital where they actually tried to pull them off individually with tweezers. Jon came running out screaming, ‘Let’s get out of here.’ ”

Lane couldn’t be reached for comment. Bon Jovi spokesman Ken Sunshine told Page Six: “Rich is remembered as a nice enough guy who was eventually in over his head as the band’s success grew. As far as his attempt to cash in on alleged experiences he had 21 years ago? No comment.”
