The estranged father of “Glee” star Charice Pempengco has been stabbed to death in the Philippines.
Ricky Pempengco, a 40-year-old construction worker, was at a grocery store in his hometown of San Pedro in the Philippines when he bumped into a man who was allegedly drunk, according to police.
The man, identified by police as Angel Capili, became enraged, picked up an ice pick and stabbed Pempengco in the chest and back. A manhunt is under way for Capili, and a reward has been announced for anyone with information on the crime or his whereabouts, AP reports.
The tragedy led Charice to pull out of a concert in Singapore.
“I am very sorry to all my fans from Singapore. I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert. I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year,” Charice tweeted to her fans.
She went on to explain in Filipino why she was estranged from her father — her mother apparently left him when she and her brother were very young. She added in English, “I loved him and I will still love him. He’s still my Dad after all.”
