Yesterday afternoon, after Kim Kardashian confirmed that she was divorcing Kris Humphries, fans gathered outside the Kardashian sisters’ Soho boutique, Dash, holding candles and signs bearing wistful messages. It wasn’t completely clear whether the outpouring of emotion was genuine, ironic, or a bit of both.

“RIP Kim and Kris,” read one homemade sign, above a photo of Humphries with his arms around Kardashian. “We’ll always have LA,” read another. “We love you even if your husband doesn’t,” said a third, posted to a photo of the couple in happier times.

“Love is dead,” read yet another, scrawled in black marker on cardboard. Some fans placed flowers and messages on post-its along the windowsill of the boutique. One man strummed a guitar and led the group in song.

Fans were apparently alerted to the vigil via Craigslist. “We’ll be gathering in front of the Dash store in Soho today at 4:15 to hold a vigil for the marriage of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humpreys,” a post read. “It’s a sad day. ALL ARE WELCOME.”

The group was eventually dispersed by police, according to a subsequent Craigslist post, but the moment was captured on camera by Web Site Buzzfeed, which is located doors down from the the boutique. “We’re neighbors and have welcomed the Kardashians since they first arrived in the hood,” said Buzzfeed managing editor Scott Lamb. “We even had a few random folks join in the memorial.”
