Angelina Jolie appears to be fed up with mainstream movie-making. The actress and mother of six has made two decisions veering toward the esoteric — she has hired a talent agent to focus on roles in independent films and has opted to release her directorial debut, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” in the native language of Bosnia rather than in English.

Jolie has signed with Ilene Feldman at IFA Talent, the same agent who represents Ryan Gosling. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Jolie signed Feldman to steer her towards smaller, more independent films rather than oversized studio fare. Jolie allegedly wants roles closer to the ones she played in “A Mighty Heart” and “The Changeling,” which netted her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, rather than “Salt” and “Kung Fu Panda.”

While Jolie has had an agent to represent her as a writer and director since March, she has been without an agent to represent her as an actor since 2006, when she left Creative Artists Agency after 13 months with the company.

ANGELINA JOLIE GETS BOSNIA FILMING PERMIT BACK

At the same time, Deadline reported yesterday that “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” the Bosnian war love story that Jolie wrote and directed, would be released in the US in BHS (Bosanski/Hrvatski/Srpski), the native language of Bosnia, where the movie was filmed. The film stars local actors Goran Kostić and Zana Marjanović, and was filmed in their native tongues as well as in English, with the intention of releasing the English version in the United States. But the distribution company, FilmDistrict, has changed their mind, going with Jolie’s wishes to keep the story as organic as possible.

“I’m honored that FilmDistrict has chosen to release the film in the United States in the original BHS-language version,” Jolie said in a statement. “It was always my hope that U.S. audiences would have the opportunity to experience this version.”

The movie will be subtitled, often a turn-off to general audiences. Meanwhile, the English version of the movie may be shown in some places overseas and will also likely appear on the film’s DVD.
