John Paulson — the hedge-fund genius who pocketed $4 billion in 2007 by shorting subprime mortgages — spent some of it last month on a house in Aspen, Colo. Paulson, 54, paid $24.5 million for the 8-acre spread, the Aspen Daily News reports. He and his wife, Jenny,also have a home in Southampton they bought for $41.3 million in 2008. And the Paulsons gave $5 million to Southampton Hospital for its brand-new emergency department named after them.
