Jane Birkin’s daughter, fashion photographer Kate Barry, was found dead after a fall from her Paris apartment. Barry, whose photos have been published in Vogue, Paris Match and Elle, was the daughter of Birkin and John Barry, the famed composer of movie soundtracks including 11 James Bond films.
Police confirmed Barry was found dead Wednesday night after falling from her fourth-floor flat in the 16th Arrondissement.
The 46-year-old daughter of style icon and English actress Birkin — whose affair with French singer Serge Gainsbourg scandalized the ’60s, and who was the inspiration for the Birkin bag — had reportedly struggled with depression, drugs and alcohol.
Antidepressants were found in Barry’s apartment following the tragedy. Police said she was alone at the time of her death, and there was no sign of a break-in.
Her parents separated in 1967, the year after she was born, and Barry was raised by Birkin and Gainsbourg. She is survived by her mother, who lives outside Paris, a son, Roman de Kermadec, 26, and two half-sisters.
