Preppy J.Crew fans will have to wait for its much-hyped collaboration with Manolo Blahnik. The eagerly anticipated shoes were the talk of New York Fashion Week in February when J.Crew president/creative director Jenna Lyons and her team put samples of the Blahnik heels in various fabrics and colors on models for the brand’s fall/winter presentation. The pointy-toed heels, priced at about $600, were to debut this year at jcrew.com and in select J.Crew stores, but Blahnik confirms it won’t be able to produce them this season because of “wholesale production restraints” — in other words, the luxury footwear brand couldn’t supply enough shoes to J.Crew’s catalog and stores in time. Blahnik president George Malkemus said, “Although we were looking forward to the potential collaboration between our two brands, we both came to the conclusion that fall wasn’t the right time.” Lyons added, “While we couldn’t do this for fall, we hope to collaborate in the future.”
