Jessica Simpson gives birth to baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson

Jessica Simpson is finally a mother, 10 days after her reported due date.

Simpson gave birth early today to baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson in Los Angeles, Us Weekly reports. Sources tell the magazine that baby Maxwell weighed in at 9 lbs. and 13 ounces and that “mother and baby are doing just fine.” Simpson was joined in the hospital by mother Tina Simpson, sister Ashlee Simpson, fiance Eric Johnson, as well as his parents.

After months of speculation — and attempting to get a $500,000 magazine deal for the story — Simpson announced in October that she was pregnant, tweeting, “It’s true! I am going to be a mummy!”

Soon after, the star told Us that she was very excited about parenthood.

“Eric and I love each other so much, and knowing that I love this baby inside of me is so amazing — I love it so much and I haven’t even met them yet,” Simpson gushed. “I can’t imagine how much love we’ll have for it once it finally comes!”

In April, Simpson appeared nude on the cover of Elle Magazine, showing off her blooming belly a la Demi Moore’s famous Vanity Fair cover. Simpson teased that she and Johnson would be picking a “non-traditional” name for the baby, though she joked that it would not be “Maple” or “Apple.”

Reports leaked out soon after that Simpson and Johnson had selected the name Maxwell, and would use “Maxi” for short. Maxwell is reportedly Johnson’s middle name. Meanwhile, Drew is the maiden name of Simpson’s grandmother.

Singer-turned-fashion designer Simpson began dating Johnson, a former NFL player, in May 2010 and the pair became engaged six months later. While they have yet to set a wedding date, Simpson has said that they were planning to wait until after their baby arrived so that she wouldn’t be a “hormonal bridezilla.”

Simpson said during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in March that Johnson “feels like my husband already.”
