In a roomful of editors at the PEN Literary Gala, the night’s emcee, Charlayne Hunter-Gault, needed one. Sources said the onetime MacNeil/Lehrer reporter introduced Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner by praising “that amazing tech article” he wrote in this week’s New Yorker, adding she’d read it “at 6 a.m. on her iPad.” Problem was, the article was by David Kushner, a journalist who also just published a book on the video game “Grand Theft Auto.” “I didn’t write that article,” Tony, the author of “Angels in America” and “Caroline, or Change,” said when he took the stage at the Museum of Natural History. “I wish I did.” He then presented Edward Albee with the PEN Literary Service Award.
