The stars of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” are defending embattled director Julie Taymor, who may be pushed out of the show. Reeve Carney, who plays Spidey, tells Page Six Magazine, free with tomorrow’s Post: “Julie’s like a fairy godmother. She’s very open with me, and I’m open with her, too. We seem to understand each other. Sometimes it’s been a hard process, and there have been a lot of changes [to the show], but I know she really cares about me.” Jennifer Damiano, who stars as Mary-Jane, tells the magazine, “I guess she has [been portrayed as hard in the media], but I respond really well to her energy. A lot of people have [a] beef with it because it’s been taking so long, but that’s because [the show] needs the time to be what [she] knows it can be. She’s no B.S.” But Carney concedes that critics who lambasted the baffling plot were right: “I like this show even though it is a little confusing. I like pieces of art that unfold over time.” “Spider-Man” is taking its time — it’s been in previews four months.
