Jimmy Kimmel taking over Oscar

Jimmy Kimmel is already being lined up to host next year’s Oscars, we’re told. One source said, “Jimmy is favored to host the Oscars next year; ABC has been pushing him for the role.” The late-night host already seems a shoo-in for the job after he earned his best post-awards show ratings on Sunday night. And while Jimmy Fallon’s name was dropped as host this time last year due to network politics, ABC star Kimmel won’t face the same issue as his network has the awards until 2020. But an academy source insisted, “It is way too early” to confirm Kimmel, because the Oscars host would not be decided till after the organization picks its next president, who will appoint producers for the 2014 show. Then again, last year outgoing academy head Tom Sherak approached Fallon to be host, and “SNL” guru Lorne Michaels to be producer, just after the awards and before he stepped down. But the move wound up causing political unrest within the academy, and ABC objected to the choices, since Fallon competes with Kimmel. An ABC spokesperson said, “This is a decision for the Academy. No conversations have even started on that yet, and won’t for some time.”
