Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goth-inspired gown remains one of the most surprising style moments in Oscar history.

The sheer top on the Alexander McQueen frock did zero favors for Paltrow’s assets, leaving an unfortunate saggy look. Even if the Oscar-winner was the “It” girl at the time, the usually chic star landed on several “Worst Dressed” lists in 2002.

Now, the actress has come forth and explained her misstep, taking to her GOOP blog to write about her biggest fashion faux pas.

“I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup. Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to – a little bit of punk at the Oscars,” she wrote.

She also called her gauzy 2000 Calvin Klein gown an “okay dress but not Oscars material,” adding, “I chose it because I wanted to disappear that year.”

However, more often than not, the style icon stuns on the red carpet. On her fashion triumphs she wrote, “Standouts for me are the pink Prada dress at the 2011 Venice Film Festival, and of course the white Tom Ford from the Oscars last year.”

Fashionistas heralded Paltrow’s white columned gown with the matching cape at last year’s Academy Awards and the pale pink Prada dress with the voluminous neck bow.

The star credits her stylist Elizabeth Saltzman for her winning looks. She wrote, “[I] have put my red carpet looks in her hands, I think they are all pretty maje. I can say this because I have just about nothing to do with it.”
