Reports yesterday that Bravo’s Andy Cohen is a contender to replace Regis Philbin and join Kelly Ripa on ABC’s “Live With . . . ” were music to Comcast’s ears, according to sources. Conservative Comcast, which took over Bravo as part of its NBC merger, has been happy with Cohen as host of the frothy “Watch What Happens Live,” sources say, but not as much with his executive role. “Bravo wants him to get the Regis job,” said a source familiar with the network. “And Andy wants to be a star. It’s a conflict of interest. They don’t like an executive getting all this attention and popping up in the gossip pages. And Andy really wants this [Regis’] job.” Adding to the situation is that some of Cohen’s series since he was elevated to executive VP of original programming and development last year, such as “Platinum Hit,” have not fared well. Cohen’s Bravo rep had no comment.
