Aston Kutcher’s ‘Jobs’ biopic on hold

Ashton Kutcher’s Steve Jobs biopic has hit the pause button for now — amid whispers that his performance isn’t up to scratch. “Jobs,” which debuted at Sundance this year, was scheduled to open April 19, on Apple’s 37th anniversary. But the April date’s been scrapped. Sources said the timing was too soon and marketing materials couldn’t be put together fast enough. The movie was produced by Mark Hulme — a Texas businessman and publisher of Signature Kitchens & Baths and Pasadena magazine — who hired his employee Matt Whiteley to write a script, then made the film for $15 million. After it was finished, Hulme partnered with a Hollywood distributor, Open Road Films, to release it, and his new Five Star Features will put up a reported $10 million to get it into theaters. Some sniffed that Sundance’s mixed reviews weren’t good enough to launch the movie by April. But a source told us, “The campaign just needs more time . . . April was too ambitious. They’ll move it to later in the year, and a new release date’s coming soon.”
