Frustrated fashionistas were left hanging by a thread when eBay began a sale of one-of-a-kind bags hours earlier than the site had widely publicized. The CFDA and eBay launched the “You Can’t Fake Fashion” anti-counterfeit campaign by commissioning top designers — including Diane von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch and Jason Wu — to create unique tote bags. Their work was to be sold on eBay starting Monday at 11 a.m., and the start time was widely covered by fashion blogs. But a computer glitch kicked off the sale more tan two hours early, a rep for the campaign confirmed. Organizers scrambled to notify shoppers, but many customers were caught unaware. “By 11 a.m., all the bags were gone,” sniffed one potential buyer. A party for the campaign Monday night at the Dream Downtown hotel drew Nate Berkus, Nanette Lepore, Adam Lippes, Monica Botkier and Rebecca Minkoff.
