Ex-Gov. David Paterson was startled to learn he was the top bidder at the Alzheimer’s Association Rita Hayworth Gala for a week in Lyford Cay, the Bahamas. Guests got plastic cards to insert in electronic devices to bid, and Anne Hearst, who chaired the evening with her husband, Jay McInerney, mistakenly picked up the former governor’s card and started bidding. “Paterson” was bidding up to $11,000 before Hearst noticed the mistake. It prompted McInerney to quip, “My bigger concern was David going to Lyford Cay with Anne.” Guests included Patricia Clarkson, Brooke Shields, Robert Zimmerman,
Deborah Bancroft, Nicole Miller and Charles Askegard.
