Ryan Seacrest pulls a proposal fake out

Ryan Seacrest appeared ready to propose to girlfriend Julianne Hough when she dropped by “American Idol” last night. However, his proposal quickly turned into a ruse.

Hough visited “Idol” to promote her new musical film, “Rock of Ages.” After a preview of the movie played, the camera cut to Seacrest and Hough standing in the “Idol” audience, alongside “Rock of Ages” director Adam Shankman.

RYAN’S MOVING ON OUT

Seacrest turned to Hough and said, “I have a question that I’ve been meaning to ask you. Will you…”

He paused and dramatically reached into his jacket pocket.

“Oh god,” said Hough, in the way women do when they realize their beloved is about to get down on one knee.

But the move was a fake out.

Seacrest continued, “Give this note I wrote to Tom Cruise? I am such a big fan. I loved him in ‘Cocktail.'”

Hough appeared taken aback by her boyfriend’s verbal gymnastics. Cruise is her co-star in “Rock of Ages,” playing Stacee Jaxx, the aging rock star who seduces her character.

While Seacrest’s joke proposal seemed a tad mean spirited, the “Idol” host appears to think it was all in good fun. He retweeted a message from a fan later in the evening that read, “I swear I did not breathe while you were asking Julianne Hough that question.”

Seacrest added to the fan’s message, “Me too.”
