Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson better be able to sing. Both actresses have signed on for recurring guest roles on “Glee.”

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly tells The Hollywood Reporter today that Parker has signed on for a six-episode arc on the musical series this fall, while Hudson will also be appearing in a number of episodes. Details on the stars’ characters are not yet available.

Last summer, “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy stirred up controversy when he announced that McKinley High School’s graduating seniors — Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry, Chris Colfer’s Kurt Hummel and Cory Monteith’s Finn Hudson — would not be returning to the series. But apparently, that idea has been amended. Reilly explains that the fourth season of the show will assume a “show within a show” format with the seniors heading to a performing arts school in New York City. Meanwhile, the show will still follow the New Directions glee club at McKinley High, with several new characters filling in the thinned-out ranks.

“‘Glee’ is really positioned for a strong year,” Reilly said.

In its first three seasons, “Glee” has gained a reputation for casting high-profile guest stars including Gwyneth Paltrow, John Stamos, Idina Menzel and Ricky Martin. Most recently, Lindsay Lohan appeared in the season finale.
