Anna Wintour agrees to Long John Silver’s date with Stephen Colbert

Anna Wintour has made a date with Stephen Colbert to go to dinner at Long John Silver’s.

The icy Vogue editor-in-chief was interviewed on “The Colbert Report” last night, and appeared far more relaxed on camera than usual. Wintour not only played along with Colbert’s humorous prodding, but even lobbed a few jokes of her own.

“Don’t you think you could take a few more risks with the way you’re dressing?” Wintour asked Colbert.

“What are you talking about?” responded Colbert. “My suit’s not buttoned. That’s crazy.”

Wintour soon jabbed Colbert again, as she explained why she is entranced with fashion.

“I believe that fashion can be just simply something that you wear, like yourself,” she said, pointing at Colbert. “It can also be something that is truly creative and change the way people look at culture. Clothes reflect the culture and the time. A great fashion photo of, say, the ‘60s, can tell you as much about what was going on in the world as a headline in the New York Times.”

Colbert asked Wintour, “Is there ever a time when you can not care about fashion? Do you ever just say to yourself, ‘To hell with this,’ put on your zebra-striped sweatpants and go to Long John Silver’s and lose yourself in a pile of batter-fried shrimp?”

“Why not?” Wintour responded confidently. “It’s a date.”

Another funny moment in the interview came when Wintour brought up the designer Prada. Colbert joked, “I don’t trust Prada. From what I hear, the devil wears Prada,” referring to the book and movie based on Wintour’s reign at Vogue.

“That movie is so last year,” Wintour retorted.
