‘Love Actually,’ to me, you are perfect

With “Valentine’s Day” headed to theaters this weekend, it’s inevitable that “Love Actually” comparisons will be made. What with their star-studded casts and interweaving tales of love set around a holiday — but I’d like to take a stand here and now by saying that I do not believe any film will ever unseat “Love Actually” as the greatest romantic comedy of all time.

Like a cinematic K-Mart, there is something for everyone: burgeoning love for the romantics, death of love for the cynics and believable rejections of love for the realists. Plus, there are now handfuls of iconic scenes (Jamie’s poorly planned Portuguese proposal), characters (Colin, god of sex) and quotes (“There was more than one lobster present at the birth of Jesus?”), a feat rarely accomplished by films today.

Now, I’m not just preaching to the choir, here are three great scenes from “Love Actually” that unquestionably prove my case.

But I could embed scene after scene, since they’re all amazing. Let us not forget Natalie’s potty mouth, Karen’s Joni Mitchell-breakdown, Sarah finally going home with Karl, the incredibly detailed jewelry counter clerk, Billy Mack’s “don’t do drugs” speech and, of course, the Prime Minister caroling for some little kids.
