As much as I love John Krasinski, hearing that he’s the front-runner to play Captain America in the iconic superheroes first major big screen outing came as quite the shock. But that’s exactly the rumor coming out of Hollywood today as several incredibly reputable sites — Deadline Hollywood, Cinematical, Hollywood Reporter — have each built on the other’s story, whittling down a longer candidate list to one name alone: John Krasinski.
If “The Office” star ends up snagging the lead in Marvel’s next great franchise — instead of also-rans Chace Crawford, Scott Porter and Mike Vogel — it means he would join the ranks of unexpected action stars like Tobey Maguire, Robert Downey Jr., James McAvoy and (to some degree) Christian Bale.
An official announcement is expected in the next few weeks and with Paramount scheduling a July 22, 2011, release date for “The First Avenger: Captain America,” Johnny boy’s gunna have to start hitting the gym, because this is the image he’s got to live up to!
