Jon Gosselin’s Funny or Die video doesn’t make me laugh or him die

Typically the humor in celebrity FunnyOrDie videos lies in the lampooning of their public image. But whenever these skits fail, it’s because the star in question doesn’t understand that what they’ve chosen to make fun of is an aspect of their personality that deserves serious self-reflection, not a viral video.

Lindsay Lohan’s eHarmony dating ad wasn’t a winner because it made light of her probation, drug problems and general insanity — issues that we all kinda wish she’d resolve instead of mock.

Same goes for Jon Gosselin. In his new FunnyOrDie video the bad dad talks about plans to doff the midlife crisis earrings, paparazzi courting behavior and Ed Hardy attire. “I just want to go back to the normal simple life I used to have,” he says. “I’m going to learn from mistakes, move forward and be the righteous person I can be.”

Um … good! Isn’t this what we’d all like for the father of eight — you know, to be a responsible member of society and not a leech on the bottom of fame’s tugboat?
