Qatari royal on UN portrait spree

Qatar royal Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani added to his art collection while powwowing at the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Thani commissioned two portraits from Russian-born and New York City-based artist Roman Kriheli, a favorite of Lenny Kravitz and Madonna, who is prepping to unveil his much-anticipated work — dubbed his Mona Lisa — “Most Beautiful Woman in the World” during Miami Art Basel in December.

The commissioned portraits are said to be one of the Emir himself, and another of his mother, Sheikah Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned.

However, the portraits won’t make their way to the royal palace in Doha, Qatar.

Sources tell us Al-Thani will house them at the family’s recently acquired 21 Beekman Place mansion, purchased by the prime minister of Qatar for $35 million.

A source tells us Al-Thani, a graduate of Britain’s prestigious Sandhurst military academy, was so enamored with reclusive Kriheli’s portraits, he may also commission the artist to do further works of his entire family.
