Guests at an exclusive party tonight at the reopened Beatrice Inn will be the first to sample former Per Se chef Brian Nasworthy’s menu, we are told. Sources said Nasworthy hasn’t shown off his culinary chops at the soon-to-open restaurant because “he hasn’t had any gas for the kitchen” till now, and tonight will mark “the first meal he will be cooking.” Meanwhile, owner Graydon Carter insists there is no beef between his son Spike, 23, and Nasworthy. “Brian is about the most charming young chef you’re going to find in this business,” Carter said. “And Spike positively reveres him.” We’d heard Spike, who will host and oversee the joint’s beer selection, was unhappy with Nasworthy’s grub, causing a delay in opening. A source says Spike’s not monitoring the menu, and Carter’s crew has yet to even try Nasworthy’s nibbles due to the gas gaffe. It remains to be seen what will become of the Beatrice name: We reported exclusively this week that former owner Paul Sevigny is exploring legal action because he says the moniker was never properly transferred.
