Chris Burch is suing ex-wife Tory Burch, claiming that she and her board members have hindered his new C Wonder business. Legal papers filed by Chris say he wants to dump his Tory Burch shares (he owns a 28.3 percent stake), but also take some very sharp digs at his ex-wife — claiming he was the brains behind her eponymous brand. From WWD: “He said her prior experience in the fashion industry was limited to public relations and marketing work in the apparel sector, and that she ‘never operated any business and had never been employed as a clothing designer . . . Ms. Burch, while talented, did not have the core business experience necessary to assemble a team of top executives.” Chris Burch’s lawyer Andrew J. Rossman said, “This action will set the record straight . . . Up until now people have heard a great deal of misleading information that this lawsuit will clear up.” A Tory Burch rep said, “Former board member Chris Burch has decided to take a business transaction to the courts. We believe his claims and assertions are totally without merit.”
