Power players mingled with top toques at the Central Park Conservancy’s Taste of Summer event at Bethesda Terrace on Wednesday night. Top cop Ray Kelly — politely dodging “Will you run?” questions — gulped down a truffle-buttered raviolo from Marisa May’s SD26 table and chatted with Swifty’s owner Robert Caravaggi. The Osteria Morini team said their boss Michael White’s new Butterfly isn’t really a “Wisconsin supper club” as blogs claimed, and his new uptown Morini will launch in September. Guests devoured Benoit chef Philippe Bertineau’s beets, goat cheese and hazelnut salad and oohed over a salted caramel version of Serendipity 3’s Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. High-heeled guests asked DJ Alexandra Richards to play Rihanna and “other party music so we can dance.” Among those enjoying the food and fun were Gillian Miniter, Kitty Kempner, Fiona and Eric Rudin, Deborah Roberts, Sandra Ripert and New Yorker writer Jeffrey Toobin who was dancing up a storm.
